Split Chords |
In this lesson we will work on splitting the melody chords into 2 parts. The first chord is in 2 colors. Fig 1 First play the entire chord on the first beat then complete the rhythm by playing only the blue part of the chord. Hold down the notes on the lower half of the chord while playing the higher (blue) part. FIG 2 |

To add the bass, just play the rhythm shown between the 2 hands in FIG 3 while sustaining the lower part of the chord. Now play all 4 chords shown below using this pattern. Notice how the lower part takes on it,s own sound as a sustaining background. |

Now we will reverse the process and move the lower notes to create a decending bass line with the chords. FIG 4 I use these techniques extensively on my albums to
fatten up the sound. This technique helps add alot of variety to your sound. |
