There are a few ways to bend a note. The first and most traditional is to pull the note up with your fingers. An example would be if you were to bend the
3rd string you would use your 3rd and 1st finger on the same string and pull it toward the 4th string until it reached the appropriate pitch. Another way would be to twist the string. You pull toward the 4th string with your 3rd
finger and push the string toward the 2nd string with your 1st finger. This second method is a bit more difficult but is better for speed and places where you do not want to touch the string next to the string that is being bent.
The 3rd way is to hold down the note with your 3rd finger and pull with your 1st finger. This method is good for when you have 2 notes played and you only want to bend the higher one.One other technique I use is to bend a note
without sounding it. Then with your little finger pluck the note and let it down. This is called a reverse bend. It sounds cool, but it is a bit tricky to execute rapidly. Fig1 |
